Perch
Yellow
perch are fished on Lake Erie, later on in the
summer as they start to school up for their spawn.
The limit on perch is 30 in Ohio per fisherman
and 50 per angler in Michigan. Perch are perhaps
the best table fish Lake Erie has to offer.
Perch
are schooling fish. If you can find a school,
the fishing can be productive. If you spot a number
of boats close together and anchored, you can
bet they are all perch fishing.
Almost all perch fishing on Lake Erie is done
the same way. Boats are at anchor and still fish.
By far the most popular bait for perch is a live
minnow. A light line with a small hook and enough
weight to get the bait down is sent over the side.
Perch are usually near the bottom, so the bait
is sent to the bottom, then cranked up a few turns.
The boat as it rocks will move the minnow, thus
enticing the perch to feed.
